CHEMICAL PEEL QUERY
Is this going to peel my face off?
"No. Back in the good ol’ days of skincare, peels used to contain only one ingredient at very high concentrations which injured then rejuvenated the skin. In contrast, the Perfect 10 Peel blends several acids and chemical peeling ingredients, each at a lower concentration to achieve the same degree of skin rejuvenation! This new “layered technology” is less irritating, safer, comfortable, and more focused on specific skin concerns. "
Q What kind of acid is in this peel?
A Many! Salicylic, Glycolic, Lactic, Mandelic, Tartaric, Pyruvic, Azelaic - just to name a few! These acids work together to break down dead skin cells, promote new collagen, and reveal brighter skin. This peel also includes retinol to increase cell turnover, plus antioxidants to soothe and hydrate!
Perfect 10 Peels are categorized as superficial to light-medium depth peels that come in 3 levels:
- Universal: gentle, good for sensitive skin and deeper complexions
- Intermediate: more aggressive than Universal, good for normal skin types
- Advanced: most aggressive, good for normal to thicker skin types, skin can have some redness and downtime for a few day
Q How long does the peel take? Does it hurt?
A The chemical peel process takes about 30 minutes, including preparation. The peel is applied over 5-10 minutes, then neutralized. A final layer of post-peel is applied, then the treatment is complete! During the chemical peel, there is a very mild to moderate stinging sensation. After the treatment, the skin is mildly red.
Q Any special instructions before/after the peel?
A So glad you asked. YES. A week before treatment, any excessive sun exposure should be avoided at all costs. All products formulated with vitamin A, AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid), or BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) that could make the skin sensitive or irritable should be omitted one week prior to treatment. The glentler the better!
Post treatment is very similar. Excessive sun exposure and sweating should be avoided for 1-3 days - I’m talking to you beach bums and gym rats! Any harsh cleanser or topical medications should be omitted 1-3 days post-treatment. Just keep it simple, avoid picking, and remember to your wear SPF!
Q Are chemical peels right for me?
A I say give it a try! Chemical peels can improve upon sun-damaged skin, rough texture, dull or uneven tone, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, or prominent pores.
